At 55, I reached a point where my health began to noticeably decline. Decades of working in a high-stress corporate environment and ignoring my physical well-being had caught up with me.
Persistent aches and pains—stemming from a long-ago foot injury and compounded by cervical stenosis and a sedentary lifestyle—had begun to interfere with my quality of life. My physician prescribed physical therapy for my stenosis and joint issues, but I found the approach both costly and focused solely on symptom management. Surgery was becoming a likely next step.
Searching for an alternative led me to Houston Yoga and Ayurveda (HYA). As someone who had always lived within the framework of conventional western medicine, stepping into a space centered on traditional wellness practices was outside my comfort zone. However, HYA immediately struck me as welcoming, inclusive, and refreshingly non-intimidating.
I began with yoga classes tailored to individuals of all skill levels, which was essential since I had no prior experience. Admittedly, it was challenging at first, but the benefits were almost immediate. Within weeks, I experienced improved flexibility and a noticeable reduction in joint pain. Many of the movements mirrored what I had done in physical therapy but were presented in a much more holistic and cost-effective way.
Encouraged by others at HYA, I explored Ayurveda under the guidance of Sharon, whose personalized approach inspired trust. Initially skeptical about dietary changes and Ayurvedic practices, I was surprised by the results. After completing my first Ayurvedic liver flush, the symptoms of my stenosis—numbness and tingling in my fingers—disappeared. Over time, I saw improvements in my overall health metrics, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.
The journey has required commitment and an open mind, but the rewards have been transformative. I now move with less pain, sleep better, and feel more in control of my health than ever before. Thanks to the tools and support I’ve found at HYA, I am reducing my dependence on medications and avoiding invasive procedures.
HYA has been instrumental in helping me navigate a healthier path. To other professionals who might be hesitant to step outside the familiar, I can only say this: If you’re looking for meaningful, sustainable change, this is a place worth exploring. Sharon and her team provide an invaluable resource for anyone ready to take a proactive approach to their health.
